Myself Dr. Dipankar Sen is a resident and Orthopaedic surgeon of the Steel City of Durgapur, West Bengal. Being born and groomed in the city I consider myself privileged and proud to serve the same people with whom I have grown up since childhood.

A student of the A-Zone Multipurpose school of 1986 HS batch I have completed my medical graduation from NRS Medical College of Kolkata in the year 1991. Subsequently in pursuance of higher education I did Master's degree in Orthopaedics from JIPMER in the year 1998. In order to get some comprehensive training in trauma I worked for about 18 months in Plastic surgery in JIPMER itself. However the quest of higher training continued and I completed the primary fellowship : FRCSEd from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. Then the flood gate of training and working opportunity at United Kingdom opened and there was no looking back for next 11 years which I spent in various UK Hospitals for academic and training purposes.

During this period along with clinical work I continued my educational activities. I was admitted in the University of Liverpool in 2004 in the prestigious MCH: Orthopaedics programme which I successfully completed in 2006. My scientific dissertation work on failure of fixation devices in hip fractures has been accepted and archived in the Liverpool University of United Kingdom. I reached the summit of my academic career in 2009 when I successfully completed the Exit fellowship of the Intercollegiate Board of UK. I was awarded the degree of FRCS: Trauma and Orthopaedics by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010, the ultimate coveted laurel of orthopaedics fraternity of United Kingdom and the whole world as well.

At this point there was no dearth of opportunity to work and stay back in the UK, however the heat and dust of the hometown of Durgapur prevailed over all the glitters and comforts of the developed western world. I did not think twice to be back in Durgapur in March 2010 staying here since then as a Consultant Orthopaedics Surgeon in The Mission Hospital. The journey in pursuance of excellence completed a full turn for myself, a rare achievement for a few.

Since then I have brought a new perspective in trauma and orthopaedics in and around Durgapur. People from this area used to travel to far off places for treatment of fractures arising out of industrial accidents, road traffic accidents or even domestic fall. Time has changed and they do not have to take that immense suffering anymore. Joint replacement surgery or arthroscopic surgery was considered to be available only in elite cities like Kolkata, Chennai or Bangalore. Today those surgeries are available next door for people of Durgapur. Orthopaedics services in Durgapur today are well known beyond the boundaries of the state or the country.

Today I am leaving happily with about couple of thousand of my patients around, some are my school friends, or old neighbours or just a known face from childhood. I meet them in place of work, social areas, in the neighbourhood and every single hello or smiley face provides me the motivation to work and do better everyday. As I see trees around are growing taller, it reinforces in my mind that I have taken the most right decision in my life - coming back and working with my people in my home city of Durgapur.

With their good wishes , advises and blessing I intend to continue delivering best quality healthcare within my limits and capacity as long as possible - that's the final goal of my life.
