My dream was to establish a centre of excellence in Orthopaedics where all aspects of care can be provided under one roof. I have done exactly that in PRAYAS - my own consultation clinic, where the patient gets everything mentioned in his prescription without any hassles.

At the present moment following services are being provided from PRAYAS

Orthopaedics Consultation: The main focus of the clinic is a close comfortable in depth consultation with Dr. Sen on any issues of Orthopaedics, ranging from complex fractures, sports injuries, arthritis of various joints and other day to day problems. The average time provided to every patient is about 8 minutes ranging from 6-15 minutes depending on requirements of patient. Special facilities are provided for Ex- SAIL employees and retired personnel from Indian Armed Forces. Intense effort is made that every patient coming out of the clinic has some comprehensive treatment plan for his ailment. Suitable arrangements are made of all modalities of treatment prescribed by the doctor so that the patient gets a 360 degree care under one roof - that is the essence of the clinic.
Allied services with consultation: Along with consultation there are facilities for application of plasters, change of minor dressings, removal of surgical clips - these facilities are of tremendous help for patients who had undergone surgery under Dr. Sen. Intra-articular injections are provided in the clinic under strict aseptic precaution and there are arrangements so that the patient can have some rest if feels unwell after any manoeuvre or procedure performed in the clinic.
Physiotherapy: One of the main component of treatment of many orthopaedics condition is physiotherapy. A modern physio unit has been established at Prayas clinic which is manned by two well qualified physiotherapist on regular basis. The facilities available are continuous passive motion, all modalities of electrotherapy, TENS and manual therapy with stretching and massage. Home visits are also arranged from the clinic for patients who have undergone any orthopaedics procedure from any institution or surgeon. Various types of packages are available for standard operations with reasonable cost and suitable documentation is provided to facilitate insurance claims for the physiotherapy service.
Diet advice: Of many orthopaedics condition being "overweight" is a main contributing factor and often the doctor asks for weight reduction as first line of treatment. One of the main pathways of weight reduction is a suitable diet advices so that excess calorie in the food is reduced and other necessary components like protein and vitamins are maintained in a suitable proportion. This is possible at PRAYAS clinic under the guidance of properly trained dietician. The body composition is analysed by KARADE scan, BMI is calculated on the basis of height and weight and suitable diet chart is prepared with a set target to reduce weight over a fixed time period. Many people have been able to reduce 5-6 kg of weight just by appropriate diet advice followed for 3 months. Special diets for diabetes, kidney diseases, PCOD are prescribed with suitable supplements to accommodate in usual home food style.
Aerobics: Along with diet advice another way to reduce weight is by regular rhythmic exercises. Many people are not aware of what to do when doctors ask for exercises. AEROBICS is one form of group exercise when people follow a music and dance with appropriate steps so that all body parts move in a regular manner. This service is present twice a week at PRAYAS under the guidance of national level trainer Mr Moloy Ghosh and his team. If performed regularly the patient feels light, most stiff joints become mobile, body balance improves reducing chances of fall and above all reduces weight in a definitive manner. The combination of diet control along with aerobics is almost a sure pathway to reduce weight.
Yoga: Many orthopaedics conditions involve stiffness of joints, and that include the spine, the knees or virtually any joint of the body. One of the best remedy to reduce the stiffness of joints is practicing YOGA. Dr. Dipankar Sen has arranged this facility at his clinic on regular basis and again this is done by none other than national level yoga teacher Mrs. Sharmistha Chatterjee. Various conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, cervical and lumbar spondylitis are very effectively managed by combination of suitable medicines and regular yogasanas. People remain fit and flexible with this techniques and the intensity of the disease is cut quite a lot by appropriate exercises.
Orthosis and Prosthetic fitting: This is a highly demanding specialised allied service of orthopaedics practice which is not easily available other than metro cities. Dr. Dipankar Sen felt this vacuum in his work arena and arranged this service at his clinic by collaborating with OTTOBOCH of Germany which is a state of the art international brand on this aspect. Custom made orthosis and prosthesis are made depending on the requirement of the patient, training is provided how to use them and minor repair services are also available at PRAYAS for those who need it. Various types of walking aid, splints or devices to correct deformity are available on demand and patients need not go to far of places to get those any more. So far we have about 25 patients who have lost their hands or legs and artificial limbs have been provided to them by OTTOBOCH under the guidance of Dr. Sen and Prosthetic consultant Mr. Pramit Dey. We are proud to say that some of our patients have overcome their illness and mental agony fully and participated in various marathon races along with other common people This is one big area of achievement in our clinical practice.
