One of the new initiative of AO international is focussing on periprosthetic fractures and reconstructions after infection. These are relatively newer disease after the advent of joint replacements over the last century and there is immense knowledge gap towards the effective treatment of the same. Not only there is insufficient literature, the availability of appropriate equipment is only restricted to metropolis of the developed world. Added upon is there is the burden of cost of the implant. The initiative from AO to expand and explore knowledge and skill on this issue shows the exceptional professionalism and fore sight from the foundation.
