Quiet often I face a question from patients and family members “whether I or my parent can really walk after knee replacement surgery”, this was a very poor example of social awareness about positive impact on life after total knee replacement. It demonstrates that even today our society is still in so much darkness about modern advances of medicine.

In order to clear those myths I took the initiative where 22 patients of mine who had knee replacement over last few years participated in a 2 km “Walkathon” arranged at Durgapur city centre. They came with full vigour, completed the run and were presented with completion certificates and medals from the organisers. This was one of the greatest efforts from PRAYAS to increase the awareness that life goes on as normal after total knee replacement. Our efforts were recognised and publicised in various national dailies which was a further moral booster for my team at PRAYAS, thanks to the tireless efforts to make this dream come true on the heart of Durgapur
